Wyatt [2] with our first litter of puppies |
|
David and I take a great deal of pride in our dogs and their puppies. We love them very much and want their new families to love them as we love ours. We do everything we can to ensure that the right puppy goes to the right family and that our started dogs are represented as clearly as possible. When we plan a
breeding and open it up for deposits to ensure fairness we accept
picks on a first come, first serve basis. We always reserve the
right to the first pick and will try to indicate prior to accepting a
deposit what our intentions are in regards to a particular pairing.
We breed for the betterment of the GSP breed and get very excited
about each of our litters -- whether it is a litter to an outside
bitch or one whelped here at home. The check we accept is deposited after knowing we have enough happy, healthy puppies to meet our needs and the needs of our clients. (Generally at about 6 weeks of age.) If, at any time during this period (from the time you mail your check until we deposit it) if you want your check back, it will be returned to you with no questions asked. We want you to be happy and excited about your puppy -- not feel trapped into buying our puppy because of your deposit. Once we deposit the checks, they are none refundable unless something happens to one of our puppies or we are not comfortable with the quality of the puppies produced. We will not sell a puppy that we would not want to own ourselves. If a particular puppy does not represent our high standards as well as we would like, it will not be sold until either it does or only on a limited condition. During the first 5 weeks of our puppies lives, we will take pictures, play with the puppies and try to get to know them as well as possible. When the puppies are about 5 weeks old, we will evaluate them for personality traits, learning abilities, temperament, confirmation and size. We will plant bird wings on several occasions, play fetch with them and if weather permits we will take the pups hunting with their Momma. We will share this information with our clients and help them select their puppies based on what is best for their family and the puppy. If it is possible to come pick your puppy in person, you need to make prior arrangements with us during the 5th and 6th week. We reserve the right to withhold selling a puppy because we do not believe it would make the best dog for a particular situation or family. If we do this, any deposit accepted from that family is fully refundable (if a more suitable puppy hasn't been chosen). Puppies are picked when they are 6 weeks old. By this age we can tell with a great deal of certainty what a particular puppy will grow to be. Picking a puppy is not an exact science, but we try to represent our puppies and clients as well as we possibly can. We know that picking your puppy is an exciting time, and it can be very disappointing if we recommend not picking a particular puppy. We ask you to understand that we are doing this because we want you to be happy with your puppy and that your puppy needs to fit into your family for the rest of its life. A bold hunting dog will not make a good pet for a family who does not hunt -- just as a passive pet can be equally disappointing to a family who wants a bold hunter. There is more to picking a puppy than just looks. I am often asked the question "Should I take the last puppy picked." My answer is this: Is it a happy, healthy well socialized puppy? Does it have a suitable temperament that will fit the needs of you and your family? Is it a dog that is pleasant to look at? If you can answer yes to all of these questions then my answer to you, (whether it is a litter of mine or of a different breeder) is Yes! Most definitely. It shouldn't matter which puppy you get if it is a good breeding, from a good breeder, who practices good whelping proceedures. Both of my dogs were the #8th pup's picked from their litters. There might have been a puppy chosen before hand that had a cute patch on it's bottom, or was a little bolder, but over all, I doubt any of the puppies taken from Sadie and Sonny's litters are better dogs than Sadie or Sonny, or would fit into our family better. With this said if you don't think you'll be happy with the last puppy picked from the litter - do not place a deposit on that litter. You pay a premium for these puppies - if you're not comfortable - keep looking. We are always happy to provide referrals to other breeders. We try very hard to make our clients happy. It is impossible to make everyone happy so we have come up with these policies. References are available upon request. We are very happy with our dogs and our breeding program. |
